So what is laughter yoga and why attend a regular group session?
It's called laughter yoga because it joins people. As yoga means union.
THERE ARE NO YOGA POSES, only laughter and fun! When we laugh regularly and for extended periods of time we become happier in our everyday life and as we become happier we become a happy magnet, attracting more and more happiness. This is why it has transformed my life so quickly.
There are also many scientifically proven health benefits from extended periods of laughter, due to the increase in endorphins and other feel good chemicals. Although some are produced when we laugh at something funny the health benefits are so much greater when we laugh for more than 20 minutes, which is the reason for a laughter group.
In fact it can improve any health problem, just like acts of kindness has a positive affect on the body's cells, so does laughter! It has been proven that happy people are generally more healthy and rarely get ill. Laughter reduces stress and lowers blood pressure. It boosts immunity. Extended laughing increases our natural killer immune cells by a massive 40%, which kills off some cancer cells and viruses. Reduces pain as it stimulates the bodies natural morphine. It reduces anger. We learn to laugh at things instead of taking life seriously. Decreases anxiety. Great for those suffering with depression and low self esteem. Joins people together, inspires creativity, tones muscles, improves respiration and circulation. Acts as aerobic exercise.
Laughter yoga is based on the scientific fact that even if you laugh for no reason, your body can’t tell the difference. The brain still produces the chemicals that improve our health. Laughing is infectious and even if you don’t feel like laughing it’s not long before you find yourself joining in without trying.
